Asics was founded in 1949 by Kihachiro Onitsuka and was named Onitsuka Co Ltd but later changed it name to ASICS which is an acronym for "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano" which is a quite from Roman satirist Juvenal and it means "You should pray for a healthy mind in a healthy body". These words stuck with Mr Onitsuka and led him to athletic shoes with the aim of helping young people through sport.
