Independent Skate Brands At Natterjacks: Our Picks
They always say you shouldn’t have favourites, but we can’t help it. As an independent company ourselves, we have always appreciated the smaller brands that strive to produce the best quality goods and they don’t come much better than those involved in the skate scene… So here are our top 5 favourite skate brands.
Polar Skate Co.
Hailing from Malmo in Sweden, Polar was the brain child of professional skater Pontus Alv. Bored of the corporate stylings of the modern skate brands, he decided it was time to take matters into his own hands and thus the Polar Skate Co. was born. It’s all about the graphics and colours with this brand, from the embroidered logo on the Camper cap to the wavy designs on the reverse of the Cut Out Logo tee. This is a brand for the die hard skate fans, with materials that ensure breathability and movement, and with some of the best boards on the market, here’s a reason it’s one of our favourite skate brands.
Opening it’s doors in 2008, SB Cafe started out with just a few tees, they then gradually worked their way up within the business to produce quality decks alongside a range of apparel. Witty designs embody the cafe vibe, with a large majority of the clothing centring around the donut and coffee cup. Minimalistic designs and muted colours really bring out the best in this brand, and make it one our most delicious skate companies we have available.
Coming all the way from sunny Perth, Australia. Butter goods first started operations back in 2008 and is strictly skater owned and run, with the core principles incorporating durability and progressive design for skaters and the fashion conscious alike. Staying true to their skate roots, they make sure every design reflects the individuality of every person who buys into their small brand… And that’s why just had to put them in our top 5 skate brands.
Possibly the quirkiest of all the skate brands we have, Welcome Skateboards began in 2010 when a group of guys decide they wanted to start designing for their friends, fast forward 7 years and it’s a brand loved by all those who skate. This independent brand loves skateboarding for what it is, an art form; everything designed by Welcome has been made with the upmost care and attention to detail. Every graphics that adorned the decks and apparel has been well though out and created with the intention to make the skater seen. It was easy for us here at Natterjacks to put them in our favourite skate brands.
This is one bite of the Big Apple sure to satisfy all your skate cravings. In the beginning Chrystie NY was but a humble solo sock company, until it decided to delve into the underground world of skateboarding and become the brand we love today. Staying true to the roots of skating, they use minimalistic designs to create clothing that keep professionals and amateurs happy. Everything about this brand embodies the subculture of skate.
